GEOSS CSR Features

What's new in Version 3.0? (Deployed into operation on Jun. 25, 2012)

1. New information model
ISO19115 and ISO19119 were utilized as basic information model for registered component and service CSR system. Information model under ISO family not only facilitates the interaction within GEOSS community (i.e. the harvesting between Clearinghouse and CSR), but also enhances the interoperability between external GEOSS clients and CSR.
2. Geonetwork powered CSR.
CSR leverages state of the art Geonetwork as back-end geo-spatial catalog. Multi-metadata support in Geonetwork frees CSR from laborious work in hibernation design for metadata. Off the shelf OGC CSW interface in Geonetwork enhances both query abiltiy and interoperability of CSR.
3. New Security Mechanism Security is critical issue won't be ignored for every mature catalog system. CSR is no exception. On one hand, new https protocol and encryption mechanism secures the basic information in system (i.e. password). On the other hand, the priviledge management in back-end Geonetwork guarantees a secured metadata discovery and access.

What's new in Version 2.2? (Deployed into operation on Oct. 28, 2011)

1. Merged components and services into resources.
2. Merged component registration form and service registration form into one registration page.
3. Service interfaces can be registered independently.
4. Updated resource category list.
5. Added resource sharing properties (GEOSS Data-CORE).
6. Added Earth Observation vocabulary (ontology reference).
7. Added Standards/Special Arrangements Reference Information for general resource registration.

What's new in Version 2.1? (Deployed into operation on March. 5, 2010)

Component record's id value has been updated to have "urn:geoss:csr:component:" in front of the previous unique identifier. Service record's id value has been updated to have "urn:geoss:csr:service:" at the beginning, followed by the previous unique identifier.
Those GEOSS Clearinghouses that have already harvested part or all of the CSR records are expected to perform a re-harvest. GEOSS Clearinghouses may take advantage of these two new URNs as a clue to identify these CSR records, among others harvested from different community catalogs.

What's new in Version 2? (Deployed into operation on Dec. 21, 2009)

1. Only approved records (Component or Service) will be retrieved.
2. Only standardIDs will be returned in the Service record.
3. Clearinghouses, Web Portals and other CSR clients need to issue a HTTP Get request to SIR to know the details about referenced standard(s).

CSR CSW Introduction

The GEOSS registry exposes OGC CSW interfaces to be accessed by other applications, including GEOSS Clearinghouses, Web Portal solutions. GEOSS Clearinghouse implementations can use the GEOSS registry to register and locate GEOSS catalog services as a basis for evaluation, configuration, harvest, and distributed query.

CSR CSW Interfaces

Service Access Address

CSR CSW - GetCapabilities Operations

The mandatory GetCapabilities operation allows CSW clients to retrieve service metadata from a server. The response to a GetCapabilities request shall be an XML document containing service metadata about the server. This subclause specifies the XML document that a CSW server shall return to describe its capabilities.

This GetCapabilities HTTP Get Request Example contains the following KVPs:

CSR CSW - DescribeRecord Operations

The mandatory DescribeRecord operation allows a client to discover elements of the information model supported by the target catalogue service. The operation allows some or all of the information model to be described.

This DescribeRecord HTTP Get Request Example contains the following KVPs:

CSR CSW - GetRecordById Operations

The GetRecordById function returns the detailed information for some specific records of interest.
